Ramsay & Ramsay
Two of the Art Gallery of South Australia's (AGSA) most generous donors, James and Diana Ramsay have been recognised with a gallery named in their honour, aptly the James and Diana Ramsay Gallery. Their gifts of cash and works of art have led to the acquisition of forty-eight works now valued at around $8 million. The works on display in this gallery reveal their philanthropy over three decades, including the Dutch masterpiece Landscape with a mill-run and ruins by Jacob van Ruisdael; the popular Napier Waller mural, The pastoral pursuits of Australia; Marcel Breuer's Long chair and the most recent gift of a rare Indian sculpture, Celestial dancers. [See AMA #186 Dec 05 – Feb 06 Artnotes SA for an image of this sculpture. Ed]
