Don’t lose yourself in tomorrow
Don’t miss Darren Sylvester’s exhibition, Don’t lose yourself in tomorrow. Sylvester takes an event in Japan in 1979 where more than 700 people, mainly children, were rushed to hospital suffering extreme physical reactions after watching an episode of Pokemon as the basis of this new video work. Epileptic-type reactions were caused when the main character battled a virus with a computer by using magical powers, manifested as psychedelic colours and flashes on TV screens. An amusing and melancholy work, Sylvester considers the way in which children embrace technology and popular culture. At William Mora Galleries, 60 Tanner Street, Richmond, until 9 October.
