Quite a saga

Russell Craig, coordinator of printmaking and drawing at Queensland College of Art (QCA), Griffith University is in Japan this month to give lectures and workshops at Kyoto Saga University of Arts (KSUA). The two schools have been developing an exchange program which is starting to see students from KSUA entering QCA programs with advanced standing. With numerous visits now under his belt, Russell is becoming something of QCA’s ‘man in Japan’. Quest for graphic art

The Centre for Contemporary Graphic Art (CCGA) in Fukushima, Japan explores the diversity and potentials of graphic art in the current exhibition Decade, looking back ten years over the history of CCGA. It includes some very interesting artists who have had individual exhibitions at CCGA in the past. Milan Fukuda is one who creates a new world by referencing images of great works of art as disseminated and popularised through various media. In one work, she reworks the motif of ‘Luncheon on the Grass’ by Manet to make you feel as though you are a participant in the original masterpiece. Other artists include Shinro Otake, Saburo Ota and Tatsumi Orimoto. Until 25 December. Visit http://www.dnp.co.jp/gallery/ccga/index.html. ET
