Martin Hanson Art Awards
The Martin Hanson Memorial Art Awards, offering approximately $13,000 in total prize monies, will be judged by Tony Ellwood, Deputy Director, National Gallery of Victoria, this year. Now celebrating their thirtieth year, the prize was established thirty years ago in 1976 by the Gladstone Artist Club and has been administered by the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery and Museum since 1993. The annual presentation of the awards and exhibition of the selected entries is held each November. The submission of entries is from 26 to 29 October, and the presentation and official opening of awards is on 5 November, with the exhibition of selected works until 7 December. Really BAD?
If you feel your red hot political activism needs a little decadent rest, why not go taste the crème de là crème of the commercial visual world as The University of the Sunshine Coast Gallery is once again tipping its creative industries hat to the Brisbane Advertising and Design (BAD) Awards. The exhibition showcases the Queensland advertising industry’s best work that was created during the previous year. The top campaigns, posters, photography, graphic design, sound, advertising copy, web sites and more are presented from 14 to 29 October. Pacific Edge – call for action!
The Pacific Edge – 2006 Regional Arts Australia National Conference is now calling for submissions. It is described as part festival, part conference – all art. The Queensland Arts Council, together with Regional Arts Australia and the Mackay community, will host Australia’s largest regional arts event, the Regional Arts Australia National Conference in Mackay from 14 to 17 September next year. The Pacific Edge will explore the broad and complex interests and concerns of those working with and for the arts in regional, rural and remote Australia. The Pacific Edge will also focus on the artistic and cultural connections between Australia and the Pacific region in Mackay, home of Australia’s largest South Sea Islander community.
