KJD Another new face in FreoJasmin Stephens has been appointed as Director of the Fremantle Arts Centre for six months while Thelma John, the incumbent, is on long-service leave. Stephens has been the Senior Manager, Education and Access, at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney for the last year, and her experience includes work at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, the National Gallery of Australia and Artbank. From Perth to FremantlePerth Galleries and Sotheby's WA Office are relocating to North Fremantle, right next door to Gallery East, opposite the North Fremantle Railway Station, and with Galleries in Glyde Street only five minutes away in one direction, and Fremantle Art Centre five minutes in the other. Satellites and SwallowAt the Art Gallery of Western Australia (AGWA) see Western Desert satellites, the first comprehensive review of the State Art Collection holdings of Western Desert painting, prints and objects from Balgo Hills, Fitzroy Crossing, Warburton and other art centres, until September; also Ricky Swallow: The past sure is tense, opening on 18 June – this, the first solo show at AGWA by this artist who represented Australia at the 2005 Venice Biennale expands on the themes from popular culture and redundant technologies resonant in his sculptures and drawings.
